I don't see them wanting to do that. Cult leaders always have a "specialness" that makes them qualified to lead, and there's no reason to undermine their power base with "mundanes." Besides, right now they can just appoint anyone they like and bam!--that person has suddenly recieved the heavenly calling and became one of the annointed. Much simpler.

I think I stumbled onto the eventual plan for the governing body teaching today.....
by EndofMysteries inon the jw.org site, look at the 2/1/2012 public wt, page 27 of the pdf...section 4"how are jehovah's witnesses organized today".
if anybody noticed, i mentioned i thought that no mention of 'faithful and discreet slave' possibly since 2010 in the public placed wt's.
i've read all of them backtracking to 2/1/2012 so far, and so far, my suspicion has proven true, no mention.

Parents pulls kids from school over yoga -- more than just a JW hangup?
by I Want to Believe inhttp://news.yahoo.com/parents-considering-legal-action-over-school-yoga-181449315.html.
and yes, jws do get name dropped in the source article as one of the two families who actually pull their kids, but it says "dozens" are upset about the "religeous practices" of yoga:.

My wife was looking into a "mommy and me" yoga class for toddlers, and it sounds like a cool school to actually have a program like that; what's wrong with all these parents?

WT article on Esther: dead wrong.
by JeffT ina few weeks ago the pastor at our church gave the sermon from the book of esther.
this sparked some old wt memories.
i looked through my old bound volumes and found this gem of misguided scholarship from the writing department.

@wallsofJericho, you may not have noticed but this is an old thread; though it would be really funny if Yadirf had been waiting these 10 years for someone to call him out so he could resume the discussion.

MTS & Gilead: Can we talk about how much of a FAILURE these 2 schools were/are?
by Black Man ini know quite a few from both of these schools who basically crashed and burned once they got into their assignments.
graduates of these schools would be thrown into foreign territorities or remote areas without a good visible means of support and would get emotionally, mentally, financially burned out.
post your experiences or of those you know that went to these pitiful excuses for educational institutions..

The only MTS grad I knew came right back home and basically used his status to have his pick of the sisters.

How's do jws explain Genesis 35:18
by loosie ingenesis 35:18 (new world translation).
.and the result was that as her soul[a] was going out (because she died) she called his name benoni; but his father called him benjamin.. .
.. i never asked them and now i can't .
-
I Want to Believe
The soul "going out" is equated to a candle's flame "going out": it doesn't actually go anywhere, it's just a phrase denoting it fading from existance.
Or were you talking about her husband overriding her dying words by renaming their son? That was a jerk move with no good explaination.

Doomsday e-mail has my co-worker paranoid
by fade_away ini cannot stand the doomsday people trying to spread fear amongst everyone.
i've had enough doom and gloom from the 25 years of my jw service...i just want to be happy and positive.
but my co-worker is very pessimistic, anti-social and an extreme negative energy all around.

I Want to Believe
Here's the thing: Israel and Pakistan or Iran could all wipe each other off the face of the earth and it still wouldn't constitute a "doomsday." That letter says it's the most military build up he's seen in 20 years; well, what about the years before that? Was there a doomsday then because all the weapons build-up? Some people just need to relax. Panicked doomsayers will cause more trouble than the actual (eventual) catastrophe.

What does your avatar/screen name mean?
by Christ Alone insome avatars and screen names are pretty self explanatory, but some...i can't figure out.
i just wanted to know why you chose your particular screen name and/or avatar.
mine is easy enough.

I Want to Believe
It means I want to believe in something, now that I've lost my faith in everything I once knew, and now I'm out looking for the real truth. Like my avatar, Fox Mulder, I want to believe that "The Truth is Out There," somewhere. And much like on "The X-Files" I'm fighting a vast conspiracy that seeks to keep the truth (or TTATT) hidden from the people.

Powerful questions to DEBUNK the Universal Sovreignty issue
by Black Man inok, we've had some great posts about the universal sovreignty issue over the years.
i'd like to have this post be about powerful common-sense questions that get right to the core of unraveling it for the nonsense it is.
when i talk to jw relatives, i'm sticking with the strategy of just posing questions instead of arguing with them.

How about the fact that Israel, as God's chosen nation, was supposed to represent the superiority of His rule, yet was always bested in every way by some other nation? It's hard to even secularly verify its existence. Anyone looking at human history to determine who had the best civilization, with social progress, laws, invention, and just general betterment of the human race (and thus the best gods) would say Rome, Greece, Egypt, Babylon, or even many of our modern nations. If God's rule is so great, shouldn't His visible people have made a better showing?

Full time ministry Joy--or Lack Thereof
by WTWizard ini can remember all the while i was in the cancer that they would trump up the value of pious-sneering.
one of those was the "joy" of serving jehovah full time.
they would always have these fantastic stories about how they had obstacles that they foolhardily disregarded, or that they got all these people into the cancer.. this is full of rubbish.

It does seem like Recovery had a good point though; Jeremiah and Ezekiel were royally screwed over and would have been better off never listening to Jehovah. They never got any blessings. Those who worship Jehovah always get the short end of the stick.
